64 per cent of you RHPers have dated someone considerably younger according to last month’s user poll. 25 per cent of you say you only date older people, with 12 per cent saying you would like to date someone younger but haven’t. What is interesting though is an increasing number of first marriages involve men marrying older women. What seems to happen in many instances is men date younger women initially because of their youthful exuberance but when it comes to settling down men tend to veer towards a woman closer or slightly older than them as they can better relate to their life experiences. Of course this is generalising and in many instances this may not be the case, but it is an interesting notion. Older woman vs. a younger woman, RHP helps you assess your options.

Society traditionally frowned upon the younger man/ older woman but there has been a relaxation of pressures to conform to this. We have seen a trend specifically in Hollywood where men such as Ashton Kutcher, Justin Timberlake and John Corbett have hooked up with considerably older women. Then you have men like Jude Law, Bruce Willis, and Jack Nicholson who have all been linked to women between 10 - 20 years their junior. For a man in his 20s the idea of an older woman showing them the ropes is an appealing idea. On the other hand, a man in his 40s may enjoy the idea of being with an energetic, younger woman who has yet to have the life experiences of an older woman.

There are some key tips when dating an older or younger woman;

- Both of you should be of an age where you have experienced life
- Neither of you can have a problem with the age difference
- There should be a connection between the two of you where you can relate to one other
- Ensure you both enjoy at least one interest together
- Compromising is crucial as you will most likely have different ideas about what you want in life

Keep these points in mind next time you decide to go for a younger or older woman when searching through RHP. Older women don’t feel you need to get nipped and tucked to look younger for a man; chances are if he wants you he likes you as you are. Younger women decide what you really want out of your partner and if an older guy is on the cards for maybe go for it, you may be pleasantly surprised.
