Who doesn’t like an excuse to get merry anytime of the year? The cooler weather is here, so it's time to celebrate Christmas in July! Thankfully ever since a pack of Leprechaun lovers convinced an Aussie publican to hold a Yulefest party in the Blue Mountain snow fields of July 1980 we now have an excuse to get merry with the eggnog and attempt to initiate the Illicit Office Party Hookup (IOPH) under the mistletoe.
No matter how many articles you read about proper decorum at the office Christmas Party, most people see the event as a chance to hook up with that hottie from accounts so we're got some red hot pointers to make sure you're on Santa's list of who's been naughty and nice.
It's important to start flirting early, any reputation may actually help you. As the singles scene that is the Christmas party goes into the night, you need to have your targets in sight early. Seek out those that you wish to have a quick “meeting” with in the stationary cupboard or even a date. The more of a reputation that you have as a good time party fan, the more likely you will succeed or even be sought out yourself.
Feel out the crowd and try to pick a target (or targets) before quaffing too much of the free booze. Lavish your potential playmates with attention, but remember that attention has to be earnest. Don’t go in with expectations but do go with the flow, kind of like fishing, be cast the net early and see what the night brings.
Bear in mind that if you are going to fish from the office pool that there can be consequences. Remember to treat whoever you end up with that night with the utmost respect. You want the relationship to stay amicable if possible, after all, office romance gone wrong can make for awkward water cooler chatter.
On the other hand, if it was fun, it was fun. You can agree to a one-night stand, or explore it further. That decision is up to you, remember that the photocopier room is always going to be there and maybe agree to meet up online. Chat rooms are a great way to keep in touch with out being suspected by the boss’s PA.
